Ane Moriam, Sangram, deep in the Himalayas, bordering Tibet, follows a new model of Christian Brother work that looks at the needs of a rural community holistically. When the Brothers were invited to open in interior Arunachal Pradesh in 1998, they scouted for a place 'where no one else would go'. Br Avinash D'Mello and Br Joel Tavares first set-up station at Sagalee, 4 hours drive away from the capital city of Itanagar, but their dwelling was washed away in a flash flood. They miraculously escaped only to move further interior to Sangram, 12 hours away from Itanagar. Today Sangram has a High School, a Community Health Project and a Social Development Program. The Brothers collaborate very closely with other Church-based and government organizations to empower people and change lives.
